Democrats to Introduce Gun Control Legislation Tomorrow: So let me get this straight, democrats want to punish law abiding Americans and impede on Second Amendment rights with new legislation "to prevent gun trafficking to Mexico," however, aren't willing to focus on the ATF and DOJ's role in deliberately putting high powered firearms into the hands of criminals including Mexican drug cartels? It doesn't matter how many gun control laws we have on the books if the federal government is willing to break them to push a political agenda, however, this is not surprising.
A new Gallup Poll shows President Obama trailing a "generic" Republican presidential candidate by a fairly substantial margin (47%-to-39%). The rule of thumb in presidential polling is that when the incumbent falls below 40% on a generic ballot, his or her prospects for re-election are grim. [I’m not sure I buy this. We’ve never had anyone quite (negatively) like Obummer! – JS]
National Journal columnist Ronald Brownstein argues that Republicans had an historic opportunity to at least constrain the growth of Federal entitlement spending. President Obama indicated that he was willing to enter into something like a "grand bargain." They blew it.
Obamateurism of the Day: Writers know that to use the same word over and over again demonstrates a limited vocabulary, and to repeat it in the same sentence is even worse. How about when a writer — or speaker — uses it first as a point of sarcasm and later in the same sentence as a measure of earnestness? As Ann Althouse points out, that’s the mark of a true amateur, especially since this sentence was part of Barack Obama’sprepared remarks (emphases hers, via Instapundit)… [Is it stupidity or hipocrisy? – JS]
"When they took the 4th Amendment, I was quiet because I didn't deal drugs. When they took the 6th Amendment, I was quiet because I was innocent. When they took the 2nd Amendment, I was quiet because I didn't own a gun. Now they have taken the 1st Amendment, and I can only be quiet." -- Lyle Myhr
