Conservative on Target! Self Defense, SEIU, BATF, Debt Ad Nauseum, Jobs, Lies & More Lies

[This whole deficit thing is really getting ridiculous. Increasingly, it looks like we are going to be fed very vague numbers and promises from both sides of the Congressional aisles, ending up with a worsening of our Grecian downwards spiral, not meaningful reform. Between the Democrats and the RINOs, we are doomed! – JS ]

Gerald Seib of The Wall Street Journal predicts: "What's now most likely to unfold in the next two weeks is a series of symbolic votes on partisan proposals that will fail, merely illustrating the capital's inability to come together in the crunch, followed by the passage of a plan that may end up amounting to the bare minimum necessary to get past a crisis point."

The plan that "may end up amounting to the bare minimum necessary to get past a crisis point" is the McConnell proposal, which would raise the debt ceiling in three installments and be matched by spending cuts to be named later. Carl Hulse reports on this "legislative magic trick."

Quote(s) of the Day > "There exists a law, not written down anywhere but inborn in our hearts; a law which comes to us not by training or custom or reading but by derivation and absorption and adoption from nature itself; a law which has come to us not from theory but from practice, not by instruction but by natural intuition. I refer to the law which lays it down that, if our lives are endangered by plots or violence or armed robbers or enemies, any and every method of protecting ourselves is morally right." -- Marcus Tullius Cicero

Quote(s) of the Day > "Eight days after taking over the reins of his country, a beloved leader urged everyone to turn in their arms - “There is no longer an enemy,” he said. A slogan, “Arms—What For?” appeared throughout the nation. Thirty days later he ordered his militia to turn in their arms. Promised elections are cancelled, the loved leader becomes a tyrant and his people lose all rights, including freedom of speech and press, becoming a totalitarian state for the next 35 years. For those Americans currently willing to agree to have some of their rights curtailed for temporary security, I’d urge them to look south -- to Cuba."
