BREAKING: It Turns Out Obama Gave ACORN $541K This Year, Not $80K: …The administration isn’t even trying to conceal the fact that it gave this money to ACORN. The money was given to ACORN apparently in defiance of Public Law 111-117 which spells out in pretty clear terms that ACORN shouldn’t be getting any government funding. This is just the tip of the iceberg. More grants to ACORN are bound to surface.
Fact Check: Obama wrong on Social Security: At Monday’s debt limit press conference, President Obama claimed: “With respect to Social Security, Social Security is not the source of our deficit problems.” This is simply false. The Social Security Board of Trustees 2011 Annual Report found that Social Security added $49 billion to last year’s budget deficit and is projected to add another $46 billion to this year’s deficit.
Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.), a Tea Party favorite who's expected to face a difficult reelection challenge, raised a whopping $1.5 million in the second quarter to support his 2012 campaign. West posted a major haul of campaign cash between the beginning of April and the end of June; his second-quarter tally is more typical of a Senate candidate than a freshman member of the House. West's campaign said the total was fueled by more than 23,500 individual donors, the average contribution from which was $66 per person.
The unemployment rate for veterans who served at any time since September 2001 was 13.3 percent in June, up from 12.1 percent in May. [This is unforgiveable! – JS]
